URANUS APPROVED: HAPPY, HAPPY ADA LOVELACE DAY!
Wednesday, March 24th, 2010
Who is Ada Lovelace you may ask? Well, she pretty much is the reason you’re reading this blog, or any other blog, on any computer in the world. Ada Lovelace (born Augusta Ada King, Countess of Lovelace) was the world’s first computer programmer. Not only that, but she also wrote the very first description of a computer and its required software. And this was back in 1842 if you can believe it!!!
How is that possible, you say? Well, today is the best day to find out!
Ada Lovelace Day (March 24th) is an international day of blogging to celebrate the achievements of women in technology and science. The first Ada Lovelace Day was held last year and was a huge success having been covered by the BBC News Channel, The Guardian, Computer Weekly, and hundreds upon thousands of blogs worldwide.
For more info go to the official website of Ada Lovelace Day, FindingAda.com. We also recommend checking out BrainPop.com, and 2D Goggles (brought to you by the very talented, Mars endorsed animator chick, Sydney Padua) for the brilliant tale “Lovelace: the Origin”, as well as many other funny misadventures of “Lovelace and Babbage”.
