Guess what we’re making???

…or at least trying to!  If all goes well, 2 1/2″ – 3″ vinyl will be available alongside the gGirl rag dolls!!!  Don’t know if this is what they’ll ultimately look like, but I scribbled this out for reference.

For those of you wondering, Cosmic Con went spectacularly!  We got the word out and people seemed super psyched about the Galaxy Girls landing in FAO.  However, the bummer news is that I can’t post pics—- I LOST MY CAMERA AT THE CON!!!  I actually think someone swiped it, and it kinda stinks because it was a really nice camera that I got for Christmas last year.  Boo.  If it turns up (still haven’t searched all the boxes) I’ll post the pics.

Jupiter and Venus cheer up The Moon!

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

It took a trip to Australia, but Venus and Jupiter managed to make The Moon smile!! Last night in Australian skies, planets Venus and Jupiter hovered just above the crescent Moon creating a smiley face that won’t be seen again until 2036!! Some people referred to the event as a big group hug– awwwww!!!

Working on a drawing. It’s a crazy forced-perspective sort of thing, which doesn’t come naturally to me, but I think it’s going ok so far. Hope to have a final by the end of the week.

Realizing more and more that I like to draw REALLY BIG!!!

Excuse the mess at my desk. It was a sewing table last week and all the sewing supplies are still lying about.

KAPOW!!!

Tuesday, April 17th, 2007

It’s been a little longer than I would have liked since my last post. For the past few weeks, I’ve been working on patterns. I wanted to post some, but I’m not %100 happy with them, and I’ve never done that sort of thing before so I’m kinda self concious. However, I did put one up as my new background (ooooooohhh… stars….)

Anyway, I’ve been working on Mercury these days (well, today, actually.) I was initially a little on the fence about that second pose. Merc is a jock, but not a fighter. But then I thought maybe she does a little boxing when she works out. KAPOW!!! Also, if you’re wondering why I’m suddenly including shading in my sketches, it’s because Mercury’s sweats are supposed to be silver – y’know, like Mercury… (the chemical… in thermometers…)

Eek. Enjoy!

After staring at it for the last couple weeks, I decided I didn’t like this drawing:

I mean, it’s fine I guess, but I felt it was deviating from the style I’m trying to establish. It’s the eyes, mostly. I felt the influence of the feature films I used to work on. My old habits coming back. Since I’ve been working in TV—and specifically because the people I’ve worked with–I”ve gotten a little more graphic. My husband would laugh. Compared to him these drawings are nowhere near being graphic. However in the past I would have been much more concerned with keeping in elements of real anatomy. I would have been really worried about exactly HOW those eyes were sitting in that head. Now I’m more aware of shapes– and again, not nearly to the degree of so many of my talented colleagues, but a lot more than I used to be.

Here it is now.

I like it a lot better– more dynamic. I have a weird subconcious rule in my head that the Galaxy Girls’ limbs always have to be super straight, but while I was revising this, her arms just wanted to be curvy, so I listened to my instincts. I think it worked!

Which do you prefer?
