Eight absolutely ONE OF A KIND chibi Venus dolls will be made available at noon on Thursday, January 29th on our brand-spanking new Etsy Shop.

Each chibi Venus is entirely hand-made by MWGG creator, Lauren Faust, and is less than 3” tall.  So tiny, all stitches had to be sewn by hand!  All eight feature a unique facial expression, a stitched signature and date, and will come with it’s own teeny weeny certificate of authenticity.  Plus, you get to decide if you want your little Venus to be a magnet, a pin, or have a simple loop for hanging wherever you want her.

Make sure you arrive at the shop promptly to secure your favorite!

(stay tuned—Chibi Mars will be invading soon!!)

Mechan-Chicks!

Friday, January 16th, 2009

I can’t believe I don’t have a series for Kick @$$ Chicks!  So let’s start with this one:  You know how people make calenders of sexy chicks who work a various, otherwise respectable profession?  And you know how when you go to get your car fixed, there are all these posters of chicks fixing cars— usually with so little clothing it makes you wonder whether they really know how to fix a car?  Well, this photographer, Sarah Lyon, sort of combined these two cliches and put a (for lack of a better term) girl-positive spin on it.  Check out “Female Mechanics Calendar 2009″

“A full-color 14 month wall calendar featuring women mechanics and their stories of how they entered into the non-traditional labor field of mechanics.

This unique and dynamic calendar includes automobile, motorcycle, hot rod, hybrid, marine, jet aircraft, bicycle, and race car mechanics. The project challenges stereotypes of the typical tool-girl, pin-up calendar by showing real women mechanics working in their shop environments.”

Felt Palettes

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

It shouldn’t be taking me so long to make prototypes of a few more felt chibis, but I’m running into color issues. I suspect I had some luck when I made Mars. I just pulled out my felt supplies, all the colors were there, I made her and got it right on the first try. I totally took that for granted and as soon as I got my swatches from Prairie Point Junction, I picked my palettes from the 6×6 swatches and dove right in, making a Milky Way and a Venus.

They totally sucked.

Lots o’ Little

Saturday, January 10th, 2009

I really enjoyed making that little felt Mars, so I’m making more!! I wanted to see if setting up an one-woman assembly line process would stream line the process, and it seems to be working so far. Observe:

I’m making 3 Mars-es and I cut out all the tiny parts first.

New Year, New Sewing Projects

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

I’ve been jonesing to design some new plush for quite a while. In particular, I’ve been wanting to come up with some designs that would be more affordable to offer at various shows and craft fairs that I hope to feature gGirls at this year. Here’s my first attempt:

(click on photos to see the hand-sewn goodness up close!!)

This little Chibi Mars is 3 inches high, so tiny, she had to be sewn entirely by hand! I’ll probably put a little loop of floss across the back so she could be hung up as decoration (or an ornament for the holidays) or stick a magnet to the back of her— or both! I don’t think she’s quite sturdy enough to make a keychain, but you could certainly dangle her from a rear view mirror.

I’ve ordered some felt in some more interesting colors than is offered by the local craft store, so as soon as that arrives, I’ll do some of the other girls.

Stay tuned for more!
